Peppermint essential oil for example has the tendency to reduce the milk supply while nursing. This is one of the issues that I have with so many essential oils available online. For me, essential oils should not be given to babies or children internally. The oils should be more diluted that those that are applicable for adult use. There are still many essential oils that are safe for children, such as orange, lemon, lavender and chamomile. There are essential oils that can cause seizures to children. The cases may be rare but I would not take the risks with all children. Eucalyptus, peppermint, wintergreen and rosemary must not be used to or around babies or small children. These plants have menthol and 1.8 – cineole that can slow down the breathing process and may stop it eventually.
The impacts of essential oils are more concentrated on small children. It is important to be extra cautious when applying essential oils on them or around them. You can also use an essential oil diffuser as a better alternative.

Essential oils are still great and safe natural remedies when used safely. I use essential oils everyday but I also make sure that I do some research first about the oil that I want to buy with their corresponding benefits. I also check about the risk in an oil to ensure that the children are safe.

- Topically by using diluted essential oils in toothpaste, lotions, and other homemade products.
